Matt Weber

>>
Who:
Matt Weber
Wife: Rachel Weber, Fog and Thistle

>> When I met Rachel...
We've been together for 12 years, married for 9. We met at a luncheon for a bunch of nerds that played a game kind of like World of Warcraft, but much, much, much nerdier.

I fantasize about being a sign painter when I retire from my current career

I've been working on an aqueduct in our back yard for a few years

I can crack my ankles on demand

I don't like merging onto highways with short ramps

I only have four random facts about myself, no, five.

1. What would you say are the three most important things that you do to support Rachel in her business?

- Talk to her about her ideas and ambitions
- Help to maintain the blog
- Pick things up for her in the city (materials, prints, etc)
- I secretly buy everything she has for sale

2. Living with someone who works long and irregular hours can be tough... from missed dinners to not being able to do simple things like relaxing or watching your favorite shows together as often as you'd like... How do you stop the craziness from impacting your relationship?

Rachel's great at it. I can't say its every really impacted our relationship. For the month before her appearance on Martha, it was all-hands-on-deck to help her prepare, but otherwise it hasn't had a huge impact on family life.

3. Could you give us a sense of what it's like living with an artist? Please describe what typically happens once you come home from work [door opens]...

I have a long commute, and usually get home around 7:30. As I open the door, Amelia (our daughter) comes running at me to give me a hug, followed by Rachel's embrace. Domestic bliss. Will then have dinner with Rachel (the kids usually eat way before us), and I then tuck in Amelia and we read for about 45 minutes. I'll then come downstairs, hang out with Rachel for an hour or so before she goes to bed (around 10:00). I'm usually in bed around midnight.

4. What was the strangest thing you've done to support Rachel in what she does?

Nothing really weird. A few unusual things: figuring out the geometry behind a lampshade, handling the traffic load of her website when she was on Martha, being the child-entertainer at her art show, etc.

5. What is the easiest and hardest thing about being Rachel's other half?

Easiest: Having fun with her.
Hardest: Nothing I care to disclose publicly.

6. What's your all-time favorite Fog & Thistle product?

The larger lamps she's made that are at our house. They are stunning-- I hope they make their way onto the store some time soon.

Thanks Matt!!
