Book Tour & Giveaway: Heather Ross

Hi everyone! A very very special treat this morning - please give Heather a warm welcome.... She's kicked off her blog tour this week and I'm so excited to finally have her here this morning. I'm such a big fan of her wonderful fabric collections (Mendocino & Far Far Away) and was SO excited to hear about her Weekend Sewing book tour! So without further a do ... (oh and make sure you say hi for a chance to win your very own copy of Weekend Sewing! I'll be picking a random winner! Giveaway closes 11pm EST so hurry!) This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations Gemma!!!

A day in the life of...

Hi, it's me Heather Ross! I live in New York City with my husband, TC, our dog, Lobo, and our cat, Benito. Our neighborhood borders the South Street Seaport, a very old part of the city that bumps up against Wall street. Our favorite spot is Pier 17, where dogs run free every morning and we can watch the boats go by. I work as an artist and writer. This was my day....

7:15 eyes open to see very nervous looking cat.
7:16 feed the cat whose demanding nature cannot be helped, as he is an emotional eater.
7:16 put the leash on our dog, Lobo, pull on the warm boots and overcoat and rush out the door.

7:20 remember that I have forgotten my keys, leave Lobo by the elevator (he is used to this) and run back for them, kiss TC goodbye and offer shirt / tie combo advice.

7:30 arrive at the South Street Seaport piers where Lobo's friends, Newt, Kahn, and Chloe are waiting for him.

7:35 we lose our most favorite bouncy ball to the East River. No amount of whining brings it back.

8:20 walk straight to Jacks Stir Brew (where the coffee drinks are pronounceable and when they say Large they mean LARGE), Lobo waits outside while I grab a "Mountie" which is basically a shot of espresso with cinnamon and maple syrup, and a handmade Pumpkin Whoopie cookie.

8:30 am successfully convinced to give up half of my Pumpkin Whoopie.

9:15 back home, my good friend and expert sewer Claudia arrives to sew up some samples for upcoming shows and events while I answer emails and make lists..... My dining table doubles as a work table during the day.

Be sure to visit www.melaniefalickbooks.com to get a sneak peek of Weekend Sewing!

11:15 lunch at my desk, leftover pasta from last night with a pesto made from garlic scapes, which are fleetingly in season, olive oil, and walnuts. Very good, but not social food.

11:25 brush teeth.
11:35 brush teeth again.
1:00 Claudia and I leave for Union Square and Farmers Market with plans to pick up cheeses, eggs and flowers for my book launch party, but have arrived too late for cheese. The tulips, concord grapes, and apples, however, are amazing, the egg lady has only extra larges which will make for some overwhelming deviled eggs at my party, but she is so nice I buy them anyway. Trader Joe's has lots of bottles of our favorite rice beer with that adorable owl on the label..... Claudia's husband arrives with his large car just as our bags become to heavy to carry and drives us back downtown, which is a very good thing since Claudia has bought some big pokey pussy willow branches that will likely get us thrown off the subway. Is there anything better than a rainy weekday trip to the farmers market?
5:15 a quick walk with you know who.

7:15 arrive at Purl Patchwork to teach my skirt sloper class, Soho is so lovely at night! Class ran late tonight, but we had so much fun and the skirts are coming out beautifully!

10:30 a quick bite and catch up with Jen.. Wonder out loud if I will ever go to the gym again.
11:30 home and unwrapping my newest ebay.uk acquisition, an Orla Kiely tin made for Brewlys
1:00 boil 4 dozen eggs for deviled eggs at party tomorrow... must remember to post this recipe on my blog....
1:43 finish this post and off to bed!!! The cat already looks nervous.

Thanks for sharing your day with us Heather!!!

I'm hopeless at sewing (much to my partner and mums shame) i do love it though, the idea of creating from nothing. I love to look at the fabric and patterens (i am very lucky working in soho London as it has a lot of fabric shops which i spend hours browsing around looking at future material for my house) This book looks fabulous and i feel it would probably teach me a lot so by the time i create these items i am dreaming of i will know where to begin at least!
